April 2018

April is a rather mixed bag of sunshine and showers. This photo illustrates it so well. Cherry blossom, daffodils and flowers spring up everywhere and fills us with joy.

Book festivals also start to spring up everywhere. A busy period of book launches, book prizes abound. My month of April started with a pledge to myself to write a poem a day. I have managed to do so most days. It is enervating to work with a goal in mind and simple things inspire one to put ink to paper.I don’t beat myself up if I am not able to pen one every single day,  but I have tried to write one most days even though none of them qualify as epic ones. Short and doable was my aim.
The month also started with meeting my seven friends of over forty years. All of us started  working in the same school decades ago. We meet twice a year and keep up the friendship through social media though we all live quite faraway now.  Cherish such friendships as they make ones life rich.
I did manage to go to the Irish Scottish Literary festival on the 11th of April at the City Halls and enjoyed hearing poets from Ireland and Scotland. I hope it becomes an annual event.
With Milngavie Week booked for 9th-16th June, I am busy organising an authors event. Five writers/poets will join me at Milngavie Library on June 13th to share their work and describe how they got their books published. There is so much interest in writing, with budding writers everywhere wanting to showcase their own work. This will be a very informative and enjoyable event. I hope many readers and writers will come along and celebrate Milngavie Week with us. Something to look forward to in June. I hope your April was a nice change from the gruelling months of this winter that never seemed to end.
