November 2019

So I missed writing a November entry by a couple of days, so here’s a short one as I’ll be busy in December- the festive month. It started well with reading my poems at the book launch of Federation of Writers Scotland’s Anthology ‘High Tide’ at the Scottish Poetry Library on the 2nd of November. Such a wealth of poets and short story writers. It was a pleasure to be there.

‘Open Book’ was good at the GWL and I managed to write a couple of poems. Alice Tarbuck is a great poet and she gave us prompts to write during the class and read it out.

The Bearsden Writers meeting at the middle of the month went well. We seem to have quite a few published writers in our midst even though we are such a tiny group. We also had a display of our books at the Milngavie Library for Book Week Scotland

The weekend trip to Pitlochry with forty other Asian friends was fun. Though the weather was cold and it was off-season it was made up by the company of friends and the stunning scenery. We came back to a colder Glasgow on Monday!

The month ended with my participation at Scottish Pen ‘s Naomi Mitchison lecture, ‘Are We There Yet?’ about Women writers and equality at Glasgow University. To be reading along with eminent writers like Jenni Calder and Sara Sheridan was humbling.

Finally, the stunning illustrations in ‘The Brown Anthology’ blew me and my readers away. A beautifully produced collection of poems and short stories by editor Sofia Amina is a book that every library and Creative Writing Department should have. It is like a piece of art. So proud to have a poem in it, illustrated by Surya Vaidyanathan from California. What’s next? Let’s see what Santa has in store for all of us. Happy Christmas to all, when it comes.
